Obituary of Raymond A MacKay

Raymond A MacKay, 73, of Peabody, died Friday morning at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington following a prolonged illness. He was the devoted husband of Susan (Peckham) MacKay with whom he shared over 52 years of marriage. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Frederic S and Christie J (MacAulay) McKay. He was raised and educated in Warwick, RI and was a graduate of Warwick Veteran’s Memorial High School, class of 1959. He received his BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University in 1963. He also was a member of the nationally recognized Purdue Drill Team. Raymond was employed for over 48 years at the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn. He was a Principal Engineer and the recipient of the Donald F. “Truly” Warner Award for over 35 years of excellence as well as numerous other honors for his outstanding work at General Electric. Raymond enjoyed camping, playing his guitar, and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. A family man, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Susan, Ray is survived by his children, John and his wife Tiffany MacKay of Dracut, Robin and her husband Robert Downing of Peabody, Todd and his wife Kristina MacKay of Dracut, and Scott and his wife Crystal MacKay of Amesbury. He is also survived by his two brothers, Roger McKay of FL, and William McKay of WA, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM, followed by Words of Remembrance by family and friends at 7:30 PM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial services will be private and held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
