Obituary of William S "Bill" Bevins
William S “Bill” Bevins, 63, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody after being stricken at home. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Power) Bevins with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Sumner and Elizabeth Audrey (Howlett) Bevins. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1969. He continued his education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Bill was employed for over 30 years as a vocational instructor for Hogan Regional Center in Danvers before retiring in 2013. Following his retirement, he went back to work at Turning Point in Topsfield.
Bill was an active member of his community. He was a member of the AOH, Division XI in Peabody, the Hickory Dickory Ski Club which skied on Wednesdays, and he was committed to the Love is Magic Foundation of Peabody. In addition, Bill enjoyed gardening and cooking and was an avid Red Sox fan. He lived by the mantra “Stay within yourself.”
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Gregory Bevins of Peabody and Caitlin Bevins of Saugus, his siblings, Richard Bevins of Auburn, ME and Janet and her husband Harry Lund of Marblehead, his nieces, Sydney Bevins and her husband Ben Hilton of Jamaica Plain, Julie Lund and her fiancé Chad Kachel of PA, his brother-in-law, Christopher and his wife Carey Power of Marblehead, and their two children Christopher and Leah, his sister-in-law, Susan Power and her husband Larry Martinez of Avon, CO, his father and mother-in-law, Donald and Maryann Woodward of Swampscott and by his grand nephew Felix Joseph Hilton.
Bill’s funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. John’s the Baptist Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to, Love is Magic, P.O.
