Obituary of Antigoni (Charas) Spakas

Antigoni (Charas) Spakas, 99, beloved wife of the late Andrew Spakas, died Tuesday morning at the Sunbridge Healthcare Facility in Beverly following a brief illness. Born in Epiros, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Antonios & Sophia (Paskou) Charas. She emigrated to the United States at age 18, settling in Peabody where she lived for the last 80 years. She was a Homemaker, but also operated a small farm on Lynnfield St. with her late husband. Mrs. Spakas was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, and a member of the Philiptochos Athena Society there. She is survived by: one niece, Maryanne Matalas of Peabody and a great-nephew, Jason Matalas of Peabody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, a brother and sister-in-law, Harry & Leah Charas, and brother Costantinos Charas. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vasilios Altar Fund, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
