Obituary of Alessandro "Spats" Gatti
Alessandro “Spats” Gatti PEABODY – Alessandro “Spats” Gatti, 90, beloved husband of Emma (Ciman) Gatti of Peabody, died peacefully at his home with his beloved family at his side on Saturday August 15, 2015. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Ciman) Gatti. He was a lifelong resident of the city, and graduated from Peabody High School. He was a proud citizen of the United States, and served a patriotic duty during World War II in the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theatre. He displayed this pride as he flew his American flag every day at home. Mr. Gatti worked at Eastman Gelatin for 32 years as an Electrician. Spats, as he was affectionately known, was very devoted in his faith as a life-long parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. As an adult he served as a Eucharistic Minister, was Past President and member of the St. John’s Holy Name Society, and was a team member of the Marriage Prep Program and Youth Confirmation Program. He enjoyed traveling throughout our country, visiting most states. He was also a member of the Italian-American Club of Peabody where he served on many committees and enjoyed the comradeship of many great friends. He also belonged to the Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly. Al had a great love for all people, and all cherished his friendship. His most passionate and important treasure in life was his family. He was ready and available to all if needed, in any way. He was proud of his children and the accomplishments of his grandchildren. As Patriarch, he enjoyed sharing with his family some of his life’s learning experiences, and adored the fun with his little great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Emma (Ciman) Gatti of Peabody, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage; a daughter Sandra & her husband Paul Manning of Peabody; three sons John A. Gatti of Peabody, Mark P. Gatti & his wife Joanne Leary of Topsfield, and Richard & his wife Patti Gatti of Peabody; eight grandchildren, Katherine & her husband Scott Cameron of Middleton, Laura & her husband Robert Mayer of Merrimac, Alexandra Gatti, Sarah Gatti, Elizabeth Gatti, and Anthony Gatti, Thomas & his wife Kaitlin Gatti, and Paul Gatti; three great-grandchildren, Hannah & Zachary Cameron and Marilyn Mayer; a sister Joanne Palmachuk of Peabody; and a nephew Mark Palmachuck of Peabody. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a daughter-in-law Theresa Gatti and brother-in-law Peter Palmachuk. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday August 19, 2015 at 8:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
