Obituary of Eutimio V. Bettencourt

Eutimio V. Bettencourt, of Peabody, died peacefully August 27, 2015 with his family at his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers on his 82nd Birthday. He was the loving husband of Maria Fatima (Melo) Bettencourt. He was born on August 27, 1933 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Joaquim E. and Emilia Gloria (Vieira) Bettencourt and resided there before moving to Toronto, Canada in 1956. In 1967, he and his family moved to Peabody MA where he had resided for the Past 48 years. Eutimio had been employed at the GTE Sylvania Co. at the Danvers plant for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He had been a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, the Club Luis de Camoes, Our Lady of Help Society and the Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost Society all of Peabody. Eutimio liked going fishing in the North Shore waters and also enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He was the father of the late Robert Bettencourt who died in 2002. Surviving him besides his wife Maria de Fatima are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Diane Bettencourt of San Jose, California, a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Joe Mendonca of Peabody, his 3 grandchildren, McKenna Bettencourt of San Jose Calif., and Elza Silva and Brendan Mendonca both of Peabody, his brother and sister-in-laws, Valter and Maria Melo of Peabody, Maria Natal and Eurico Silva and Carlos and Livramento Melo all of Azores, Portugal and Anna and Manuel Ortins of Toronto, Canada, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at11:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
