Obituary of Alfonso H. Schifano

Alfonso H. Al Schifano DANVERS Alfonso H. Al Schifano, 82, beloved husband of Gloria (Spagnolo) Schifano, died Monday morning at the Ledgewood Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly following a brief illness. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Antonio & Gaetana (Alessi) Schifano. He lived in East Boston in his youth, where he attended schools. He graduated from East Boston High School. He lived in Danvers for the last 16 years, and previously lived in Peabody for 26 years. He was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Navy. Mr. Schifano began training for his trade as a Tailor while very young. He started his career in Boston at Howard’ s Men’ s Clothing Store in Downtown Crossing. He eventually became a Store Manager for several Fine Men’ s Clothiers, and was employed with Kennedy’ s and then Wallachs, both located at the former North Shore Shopping Center, now called the North Shore Mall, in Peabody. He retired 20 years ago. He was an avid Red Sox fan, loved golfing, and was always very proud at living as a grandfather, being called Papa , and enjoying his cherished grandchildren. He is survived by: his wife, Gloria (Spagnolo) Schifano of Danvers, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra & William Rivers of Peabody, Susan & Bob Kelsey of CT, Stephanie & David McGeney of Peabody, and Sharon & John Moribito of CT; nine cherished grandchildren; a brother, Charles Schifano of TN, a sister Ann DeMarco of Medford, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maura McGeney, and two sisters, Connie Alessi and Lena Kail. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. John the Baptist Church Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
