Obituary of Vassille Vrettos
Vassille (Parianos) Vrettos, 93, of Peabody, died Sunday morning at the Aviv Centers for Living in Peabody. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Theodore Vrettos whom she married in 1946.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late George and Elani (Horvatha) Parianos, whom emigrated from Samos, Greece. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School.
Vassille enlisted with the United States Navy in 1944 and served during World War II before being honorably discharged in 1946.
Vassille was a freelance photographer, avid gardener, champion golfer and editor who traveled extensively for research for her husband Theodore who was the author of 9 books about Greece. She was a benefactor and patron of the Museum of Fine Arts and along with her husband established a scholarship at Harvard University for the study of the Arts, History and Philosophy of classical Greece.
Vassille is survived by her two nephews, Demetrios and George Veliskakis, and her three great nephews, Nick Walsh, Alexander Veliskakis and Constantine Veliskakis. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Katherine Parianos and Chrisanthi Harrison.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody and her Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
