Obituary of Gordon N. Potter

Gordon N. Potter PEABODY – Gordon N. Potter, 82, husband of Mary F. (Sousa) Potter of Peabody, died peacefully on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following an extended illness. Born in Hancock County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Shelvy and Ina (Faulk) Potter. He grew up there and in Shelbyville, IN where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and served eight years finishing in the Naval Reserves during the Vietnam War. Mr. Potter worked as a Meat Cutter with Stop & Shop stores in Gloucester, Arlington, Peabody and Stoneham for over 50 years of service. Gordon was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the Merrimack Valley Beagle Club and breeded as well as participated in field trials, and a member of the Moose Lodge of Salem. He was athletic, very skilled in carpentry and woodworking, and enjoyed social gatherings with family and friends at home, and playing cards and Bingo with his grandchildren, and also Bingo at the Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody. He is survived by his wife Mary (Sousa) Potter of Peabody, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; two sons and two daughters and their spouses, Glenn & Julie Potter of Georgetown, Gordon & Robin Potter and Kerri & Dave Parker both of Meredith, NH, and Laurie & Billy Evans of Elkhart, IN; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a sister Leonora Irvin of Rome, GA, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday Sept. 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Office of Philanthropy, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805 .
