Obituary of Jose Correia Cesar

José Correia César, 77, of Peabody, passed away Thursday afternoon at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Mariana (Novias) César. José was born in Lagarinhos Gouveia, Portugal on October 25, 1937, son of the late Angelo and Maria de Lourdes (Correia) César. He was raised and educated in Portugal and also served 5 years in the Portuguese military before settling in Peabody 37 years ago. While living in Peabody, José worked as an Engineer at Webster Industries. He was a member of many fraternal organizations in Peabody including, Our Lady of Help Hall, Clube de Luis Camoes, Portuguese American War Veterans Post No. 1, and the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost Society. He was also a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. One of José’s favorite past times was watching his favorite soccer team, Sporting Clube de Portugal, play, but most importantly he loved being surrounded by his family. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Carlos César of Salem, Arthur César of Peabody, Maria da Luz César of Peabody, and Fernando César and his wife Tanya of Peabody; his grandchildren, Nicole Tracchia, Meaghan Bettencourt, and Sophia César; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Antonio Abreu of Peabody, a neice, a nephew, and their children. He also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, all living in Braga, Portugal A Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 29, at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
