Obituary of Esther J. (Horrigan) Sweeney

Esther J. (Horrigan) Sweeney, 95 years, of Peabody wife of the late John Jack Sweeney Ret. Peabody Chief of Police, died Wednesday at the Masconomet Health Care in Topsfield. Mrs. Sweeney was born April 17, 1908 in Peabody daughter of the late Michael and Hannah (Walsh) Horrigan. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School. She then pursued her education at the former Salem Commercial School. Mrs. Sweeney resided in Peabody for most of her life. Mrs. Sweeney was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, and a member of St. John’ s Ladies Sodality. She is survived by a son and his wife, Peabody Police Captain John J. and Gloria Sweeney of Peabody; a daughter and her husband, Mary Jo and Richard Dussault of Topsfield; 6 grandchildren, Michael Dussault of Wayland, Kathleen Clune of Beverly, John Sweeney III of Arlington, Eileen Masiero of Lee, Patricia Puglisi of Newburyport and Richard Sweeney of Clearwater FL; 10 great grandchildren, a nephew Rev. John Meagher of the Edmundite Fathers of Groton VT and several other nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Henry, Rose and Catherine Horrigan and Mary Meagher. Her funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody location (978-531-0398) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Her nephew Rev. John Meagher will Celebrate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
