Obituary of Maria C Bettencourt
Maria C. Bettencourt, 90, of Peabody, passed away Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Bettencourt. Maria was born Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on February 8, 1925, daughter of the late Jose & Lottie (Espinola) Bettencourt. She was raised and educated in Portugal, until moving to the United States with her family in 1966. Prior to her retirement, Maria worked at as a stitcher for New England Sportswear in Peabody. She was also a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost in Peabody, and a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, where she attended mass regularly. Maria also had many interests including, cooking a variety of Portuguese meals in her home, where nobody was allowed to leave hungry, she crocheted a vast variety of items over the years, including baby blanket and pillows, and most importantly she enjoyed being surrounded by her family, whether it was praying for them, or just making sure they were doing well, she loved her family and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Fernando & Linda Bettencourt of Peabody, Maria & Americo Silva of Peabody, Judite & Paul Bonsaint of Peabody, Jose Bettencourt of Peabody, a daughter-in-law, Fatima Bettencourt; her grandchildren and their spouses, Lily Bettencourt & Ty Haynes, Lesly & Brian McCormack, Andrew & Talia Bettencourt, Michael Bettencourt & his fiancé, Rebecca Maihos, David Bettencourt, Stephanie & Chris Hartford, Kevin & Katelyn Silva, Megan Bonsaint, and Amie Bonsaint; 12 great grandchildren; her siblings Judite Silva of Lowell, Georgina Tomas of Lowell, Glorinda Bettencourt of Peabody, and Alvarina Braga of Lowell, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Manuel N. Bettencourt, and her brother, Manuel J. Bettencourt. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 19, at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
