Obituary of Helen (Yaskell) Burke

Helen (Yaskell) Burke, 91, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning surrounded by her family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Henry “Buddy” Burke with whom she shared over 67 years of marriage. Born in Somerset, MA, she was the daughter of the late Vladimire and Theodozia (Wasik) Yaskell. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1942. Helen enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and rug hooking, but her favorite activity was spending time with children, and later her grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors. She will be dearly missed by all. Besides her loving husband of 67 years, she is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Beverly and Gary Barr and Susan Deisenroth of Dracut, her three grandchildren, Amy and her husband David Sullivan, James and his wife Abbey Barr and Katie Deisenroth, her two great grandchildren, Colin and Owen Sullivan, and is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Doria Yaskell of Peabody and Jean Burke of Salem and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Myron, John, and Jake Yaskell. Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
