Obituary of Richard G Thornett

Richard G. Thornett, 82, of Salem, MA died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center. He was born in Washington, D.C. on June 23, 1933, the son of the late Geoffrey and Helen (Fleishell) Thornett. He also resided in New York, Maryland, and Virginia before moving to Salem 5 years ago. Richard loved learning and earned master's degrees in philosophy and technology from Catholic University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and George Mason University. He enjoyed computers and was continuously studying new programming languages and technologies. He was a computer scientist and retired after nearly 30 years at the Department of Defense. He is survived by his wife Anne (Quenneville) Thornett, his sons Richard Thornett and his wife Susanna Baird of Salem, Robert Thornett of Virginia, and his two cherished grandchildren Wesley and Annalise Thornett. He also leaves his brothers Dr. Fred Thornett (Cindy) of Maryland, Robert Thornett (Christy) of Delaware, and Michael Thornett (Kathy) of Maryland. He was predeceased by his sister Ann Thornett Miller Haack. Visitation will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur funeral home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody MA on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 6-7pm and Thursday, Oct. 22 from 9-9:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Thursday at St. John’s Church 17 Chestnut St. in Peabody. Burial will take place Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at the mausoleum in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, NY.
