Obituary of Josephine M Pcheny

Josephine M (Baszkowski) Pcheny, 86, of Peabody, died on Saturday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of William Pcheny with whom she shared over 57 years of marriage. Born in Endicott, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Baszkowski and Katherine (Royek) Ewaschuk. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1946. She continued her education at Beverly Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1950. Josephine was first employed as a Registered Nurse at the VA Bedford Hospital before enlisting with the United States Air Force in 1954. She served in England during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with rank of Captain in January of 1956. Following the war in Korea, Josephine embarked on a 30 year career as a school nurse for the city of Peabody before retiring some years ago. In her retirement, she was a member of the Golden Agers in Peabody and also chaired the committee for Women Veteran’s who served during war time. The Monument stands erect proudly on the front lawn of Peabody City Hall with the other monuments honoring our veterans. She always enjoyed traveling, gardening and loved dancing to Polka music. Besides her husband William, she is survived by her children, Carol Weeks of Nashua, NH and William D Pcheny of Taylors, SC, her sister, Caroline Renaud of Marblehead, and by her five beloved grandchildren, a great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Spence. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
