Obituary of Luis Cunha

Luis Cunha, 83, of Peabody, died peacefully on Thursday morning and the One Care Center in Peabody. He was the devoted husband of Maria (Ferreira) Cunha with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was born in Lisbon, Portugal on August 28, 1932, the son of the late Joaquim and Adelaide Cunha and was raised there before coming to Peabody in 1970. He had been a baker with the Mello’s Bakery in Peabody for 20 years prior to his retirement. Luis enjoyed having friends over and being with his family. He also liked to travel back to Portugal to visit his family and friends there. He is survived by his wife, Maria, a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Fernando Avila of Peabody, a surviving brother Victor Cunha of Portugal, his cherished grandchildren, Luis Avila and his wife Jennifer of Raleigh, NC and Elizabeth and her husband Johnny Silva of Peabody, four great grandchildren, Jake Sousa, Jason Avila, Colby Silva and Michael Avila and many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his brother-in-laws, Antonio, Jose, Jorge and Eduardo from Portugal with whom he admired and cherished their friendship. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line at 11:00 AM.
