Obituary of Palmira M. (Abreu) Crisostomo

PEABODY – Palmira M. (Abreu) Crisostomo, 86, beloved wife of the late Henrique Dias Crisostomo, died peacefully on Tuesday November 24, 2015 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital, while in the comforting presence of her family. Born in Sao` Paulo, Brazil, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiao Ferrira de Abreu and Maria do Ceu dos Santos Monteiro. She lived there a short time, and grew up in the town of Santa Marinha, Portugal. She came to the United States at 28 years of age, and found work at Ideal Baby Shoe, Bonfanti Leather of Peabody, and Bicknell & Fuller. She also was very helpful in helping her family leave the dictatorship of Portugal to come live in the United States. She lived in Peabody for the last 58 years. Mrs. Crisostomo had a strong devotion with her faith, and read the Bible daily. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed crochet, coloring with the young children, and had a green thumb with plants. She will be dearly missed by all, as she was the official Matriarch in her family. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Antonio “Tony” Crisostomo & Joyce of Peabody; three grandchildren, Tony J. Crisostomo, Nicole Marie Crisostomo, and Natalie Anne Crisostomo all of Peabody; her brothers and sisters, Arminda Almeida of Phoenix, AZ, Sue Abreu of Phoenix, Maria Ceu Deserto of Peabody, Antonio Abreu of Peabody, and Assucena Giles of Phoenix, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by brothers Gaspar Abreu and Carlos Abreu. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday November 30, 2015 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 – 6 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
