Obituary of Bartholomew J. "Buddy" Madruga, Sr.

Bartholomew J. Buddy Madruga, Sr., 82, of Peabody, died late Thursday evening at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Alice (Sousa) Madruga of Peabody with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Cunha) Madruga. He was raised and educated in Peabody and attneded Peabody Schools He was a veteran of World War II who served in the European Theatre with the United Stated Army. He first worked as a Tacker in the leather industry, then for CBS Hytron in Danvers and finally he worked for over 27 years for the city of Peabody as a firefighter, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Portuguese American War Veteran’ s Post 1 in Peabody, the Beverly Elks # 1309, and the Polish Club in Danvers. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Bartholomew J. Madruga, Jr and his wife Sharon of Plymouth, a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia Jean and Carl Edward Lund of Spring Hill Florida, a sister. Mary L’ Italien of Salem, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Edmund and Manuel Madruga, Lucy Bettencourt, Helen Nunes, and Margaret Gill. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
