Obituary of Jose "Joe" Andrade Jr.

Jose “Joe” E. Andrade Jr. 90, of Lynn, loving husband of the late Maria Bernadette “Bernie” (Fernandes) de Andrade, died at the North Shore Medical Center Hospital in Salem on Thursday, December 17, 2015 after being stricken at his home. Joe was born in Ribeira Brava, Madeira Island, Portugal on June 4, 1925 son of Jose and Carolina (da Encarnação) de Andrade. He was raised and educated in Portugal, worked for several years in Venezuela as a young adult, returned to Madeira for many years, and eventually immigrated to the United States in 2005 making his home in Peabody before moving to Lynn in 2008. In Madeira, Joe owned and oversaw the operation of his Banana Plantation and Vineyard until retirement. He traveled extensively, enjoyed gardening and the outdoor life, and had a passion for playing cards. He is survived by a son, Emilio Andrade (wife Graça) and granddaughter, Eugenia Andrade of Madeira Island; his in-laws, Alvaro Fernandes of Madeira (deceased wife Caroline and present wife Conceicão); Encarnação “Connie” Pereira of Peabody (deceased husband Norberto); Ana Stanford of Richardson, TX (husband Thomas), Armanda “Lita” Georges of Lynn (husband John), and Margarida Fernandes of Watertown; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by five sisters, Florinda, Clarisse, Olivia, Encarnação and Maria José. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody.
