Obituary of Esther E Marrs

Esther E. (Mackey) Marrs, 82, of Peabody, died early Sunday afternoon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James F. Marrs. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Joppi and Anna (Hokkinen) Mackey. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1938. After High School she attended Salem Commercial School, graduating in 1939. Prior to her retirement, she first worked as a Clerk-Stenographer in Japan for the United States Army from 1949 until 1951. She was a legal secretary for A. C. Lawrence and Pearl & McNiff law office, both in Peabody and for GTE Sylvania, Danvers. She played golf with a passion and was a member of the former Peabody Country Club. She also enjoyed ocean swimming, reading and spending time with her beloved family. She is survived by two sons, John and James Marrs, both of Peabody; a daughter, Elizabeth Marrs of Peabody; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Rebecca Mackey of Falmouth, and Hannes and Virginia Maki of Salem; a twin sister, Elsie Hall of Salem and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody, Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 5 until 8 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts St., STE 450, Newton, MA 02158iac.net
