Obituary of Edward "Figgy" LeBlanc
Edward “Figgy” LeBlanc, 88 of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Wednesday morning following a brief illness.
Born in Lynn on June 24, 1927, he was the son of the late Maxine and Locade (Goguen) LeBlanc. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Loretta (O’Brien) LeBlanc, sons Thomas and Kenneth of Peabody, daughter, Laura and her husband John Vining of Haverhill.
He attended St. Jean Baptist School and was an Army Veteran of World War II stationed in Korea.
Following the war, he worked at Lynn City Hall for the Veteran’s Benefits Office, and then he was employed for over 27 years as an Inspector for the Department of Public Utilities in Boston.
He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 12 and 161 in Lynn, and served as Commander of Post 161 from 1957 – 58. He sang in the St. Jean’s Men’s Choir for many years highlighted by a European tour in 1987 in which they sang for Pope John Paul II. He served on the board of directors of the St. Jean’s Credit Union for 50 years.
He leaves his sisters Doris Bourgeois of Peabody and Iren Melanson of Lynn, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur “Icky”, Anthony, Alfred “Frippy”, Robert, Edgar, and Raymond, sisters Yvonne Ostrowsky, Corinne Serino, and Rita Bisson.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Alzheimer’s Association or to The Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, 75 R Central St, Peabody, MA 01960.
