Obituary of Joseph A. Silva

Joseph A. Silva TOPSFIELD/PEABODY – Joseph A. Silva, 54, loving husband of Susan (Falkowski) Silva, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, after a lengthy illness. Born in Salem, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Silva and Zilda C. (Silva) Silva. He grew up in Peabody, and after graduating Peabody High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, he graduated Magna Cum Laude at Brandeis University, receiving four awards. Also at Brandeis, he was ABD in their Doctoral Program in Music Theory. Joe enjoyed a twenty-five year career in the computer field with the same employer. He never forgot his love for music, as music was a strong passion of Joe’s. A skilled musician, Joe’s musical career spanned more than 35 years. His career began as organist for Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. At Brandeis University, he helped found the Brandeis Jazz Ensemble. He was a member of various school and professional bands with varying musical styles. He also wrote original music with lifelong friends. Joe’s other passions in life were boating, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. A devoted father, he is survived by his wife Susan of Topsfield; twin sons David Silva of Topsfield and Stephen Silva of Maysville, GA. Besides his parents, his daughter Catherine Silva preceeded him in death. He is also survived by extended family and in-laws, Edward & Helena Falkowski of Peabody, Peter & Jayne Ciarametaro of Gloucester, Edward & Doreen Falkowski of Weddington, NC, David & Susan Falkowski of Westwood, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday January 4, 2016 at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 – 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101 A First Ave., Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451-1115.
