Obituary of Claire V. (Melvin) Mosson

Heaven welcomed a sassy new angel on Monday, January 4,, 2016. Claire V. (Melvin) Mosson, 87 years young was a longtime resident of Peabody, MA. She was a devoted wife to Francis Mosson for 55 years and loving mother to her daughters Tricia Mosson of Salem, MA , Colleen (Mosson) Carlucci and son in law Dave of Franklin, MA. She was the incredibly loving and proud Nana to her precious grandsons David and Ryan Carlucci and a special step Mom and “Grandma Claire” to Bill Markey and Taralyn Markey of Carlsbad, CA. Preceded in death by her sister Mary (Hanley) and brothers James, John (Jack) and Francis Melvin and brothers/sisters in law Joseph Hanley, Marion Melvin and Marilyn Melvin. She leaves behind her brother William (Bill) Melvin of North Andover, her baby sister Dorothy (Dot) Honohan and her husband William (Bill) Honohan of Salem NH and her sisters-in-law Nancy Melvin of North Andover, Jackie Dustin and her husband Damon of Boxford, MA, Pat Haley and her husband Tom of Amelia Island, FL and Grace Kopp and her husband Bob of Emlenton, PA. Claire was born at home in Groveland, MA on Christmas morning, 1928 to her Mother Mary (Casey) Melvin and her Father James Melvin. She grew up in South Lawrence where she attended St. Patrick’s Grammar and High School giving the nuns a run for their money. In her single days she spent endless summers with her friends at Hampton Beach before marrying and moving to Peabody where she raised her family. Her extended family of well over 50 nieces and nephews, many great nieces/nephews and countless special friends and neighbors were incredibly important to her. She was happiest surrounded by the love and laughter of those she held dear. Known for her wit, sharp tongue and fabulous fashion sense she was lovingly considered the Queen Bee of the family. She worked for many years in Customer Service at Compugraphic/Agfa Corporation in Wilmington, MA before retiring with an incredible send-off in 1993. She was lovingly referred to by many nicknames including Mummy, Mum, Nan, Nana Banana, Grandma Claire, Auntie, Clairesy, Ginny, Mrs. Mosson, Miss West Peabody and Queenie. Claire, Claire with the beautiful hair, you will be forever in our hearts and we thank you for all the heart you gave to us. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9th from 9:15 until 11:15 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St.,Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, 16 Church St., Peabody at 11:30 AM. Relavites and friends are kindly invited.
