Obituary of George Sarantis

George Sarantis PEABODY – George Sarantis, 75, beloved husband of the late Irene “Pee Wee” (Taylor) Sarantis, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday January 10, 2016. Born in Chios, Greece, he was the son of the late Isidoris and Mary (Theodorakis) Sarantis. He lived inChios as a young boy. His family came to the United States and lived in Brooklyn, NY for a few years, eventually settling in Peabody when George was 9 years of age. He graduated from Peabody High School. Mr. Sarantis served in the United States Navy between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was employed with several local leather companies in and around Peabody. George was a major sports fan, and his love was football. He also enjoyed music, recorded a couple of demo records, and he played drums at various night clubs for belly dancers in the 50's & 60’s. George was also a talented photographer, an avid coin and stamp collector, and had a knack for crafting cosses with match sticks. He is survived by a daughter, Suzan Jastrzembski of Salem; a grandson Brandon Jastrzembski of Danvers; three sisters, Catherine Panapoulos of Peabody, Jean Theriault and Dora Tsimounis both of Salem; a brother Nicholas Sarantis of Carthage, NY and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday January 14, 2016 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, PO Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036.
