Obituary of Benjamin Saia, Sr

Benjamin Saia, Sr, 95, of Peabody, died on Sunday afternoon surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Laura C (Nazzaro) Saia. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late John and Sarafina (Merlino) Saia. He was raised and educated in Everett and has lived in Peabody for the past 55 years. Benjamin was a veteran on World War II with the United States Coast Guard and later he served with the United States Navy during the Korean War before he was honorably discharged in June of 1952. Following his discharged from the military Benjamin attended Bently College in Waltham and received his Accountant’s Degree. He was employed for over 30 years before retiring as a Supervisor of Production Control at Harmonic Drive in Wakefield. Benjamin was also very active in the community he lived in and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Malden and enjoyed gardening, yard work, and bowling and upon his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to Italy with his wife and exploring his parent’s birth cities. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Saia, Jr and his partner Dave Wilson of Stratham, NH, his daughter, Trudy Ivas of Tewksbury, his loving grandchildren, John B Ivas, Jennifer and her husband Kevin Delaney, and Brian and his wife Christine Hoadley, his four great grandchildren, Michael and Madison Hoadley, and Emma and Avery Delaney, and also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by is son-in-law, John Ivas, Jr and by his brothers Thomas and Anthony Saia. Visiting hours for Benjamin will be held on Friday from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at St. John’s Church, Church St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody.
