Obituary of Manuel Rodrigues Carroca
Manuel R. Carroca, 81 of Peabody, passed away January 16, 2016, forty years to the day that his wife came over from Portugal to make their home, he has gone home to be with her. He was the husband of the late Maria do Carmo da Pedra (Madeira) Carroca, who passed away in 2014. Manuel was born in the Azores, Portugal on July 11, 1934, son of the late Jose R. Carroca and Maria do Carmo (Couto) Carroca. He was raised and educated, also played in two bands while living in Portugal. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a machine operator at the Container Corporation of America in Wakefield. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. He had many interests that he enjoyed engaging in, he loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing for a variety fish, clamming, gardening, especially caring for his wife’s roses, watching boxing, making homemade wine, to which enjoyed sharing with his friends and family, but most importantly he enjoyed being surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his three daughters and a son, Maria & her husband Alberto Travassos of Peabody, Joana & her husband Antonio Alberto Camelo of Toronto, Canada, Joao & his wife Maria Carroca of Dracut, and Ana & her husband Carlos Cardoso of Port St. Lucie, FL, and the late Jose Eduardo Carroca; his grandchildren, Peter & Gorettie Camelo of Milton, Canada, Stephanie & Wayne Thompson of Peabody, Ryan Travassos & his partner Lucia of Danvers, Gary Camelo of Toronto, Canada, Jeannie Travassos of Port St. Lucie, FL, Carlos Cardoso of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jonathan Carroca of Dracut, Joshua Carroca of Dracut, Melissa Cardoso of Port St. Lucie, FL, Shawn Cardoso of Port St. Lucie, FL, and; his great-grandchildren, Fabian Lasalle and Antonio LaSalle, Nathan Camelo and Marcus Camelo, Sofia Thompson, Andrew Travassos and Rylee Travassos, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mariano & Ana Carroca, John & Julie Carroca, Antonio & Isaura Carroca, and the late Miguel Carroca & his wife Conceicao, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 5-9 P.M at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 8 A.M. from the, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
