Obituary of Patrick J Hunt, Sr
Patrick J. Hunt, Sr. 90, of Peabody, died peacefully at home on Thursday evening surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite A. (McKay) Hunt.
Born in Castlerea, County Roscommon, Ireland, he was the son of the late Matthew and Margaret (O’Gara) Hunt. He was raised and educated in Ireland. In 1949, he immigrated to the United States and has lived in Peabody for over sixty years. Patrick was an active communicant at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Lynnfield, Massachusetts for over six decades.
Faith, family and work were the cornerstones of his life. Patrick was an active, loyal and dedicated member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #4, Boston for sixty-five years. Mr. Hunt worked on numerous major construction projects throughout his illustrious career. Many of Mr. Hunt’s days were spent enjoying the Boston skyline and his contribution to its’ beauty including the Prudential Center, Post Office Square, the John Hancock Building, Boston’s Logan International Airport, the Massachusetts Turnpike and Boston’s “Big Dig Project”. He spent many years working on power plant projects in New England including the Salem Power Plant, Seabrook Station and the Mystic Power Plant. He loved his profession immensely as well as the people with whom he worked.
He is survived by his loving children, Dr. Margaret M. Hunt, Kathryn A. Hunt, and Patrick J. Hunt, Jr and his wife Annette, all of Haverhill, his siblings, Matthew Hunt of Ireland, Mary Regan of Lynn, Margaret McCormack of Ireland and his sister-in-law, Mary Doucette of Melrose. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Daniel, Melanie, and Noah Hunt, USMC and by numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly knew him as Uncle Pat.
The Hunt Family would like to especially thank Dr. Michael Golden, Katie and his staff who provided exemplary care for many years for their Dad. In addition, many thanks to the Care Dimensions staff including Beth, Deb, Steve, Katie, Alex, Allie, Tammy and Lisa.
Patrick’s funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Grove St., Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
