Obituary of Gilberto Ataide

Gilberto Ataide, 80, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at Union Hospital, Lynn following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maria (Silva) Ataide. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Ermilindo and Alice (Espinola) Ataide. He was raised and educated in Portugal before immigrating to the United States in 1961. He has been living in Peabody for the past 45 years. While living in Peabody, he worked in the leather industry for over 20 years at AC Lawrence. He also worked part-time for a construction company in Peabody. Mr. Ataide enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and loved going to the ocean. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Manuel G. Ataide of Peabody, and three sisters, Edwina Silva of Peabody, Mary Mello of New Hampshire and Idelta Burkett of Georgia. He is also survived by his grandson, Nelson Ataide of Marblehead. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
