Obituary of Emelda Silva

Emelda Silva, 83 of Peabody, passed away Wednesday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Francisco Silva. Emelda was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on September 30, 1932, daughter of the late Antonio and Maria(Clement) Nunes. She was raised and educated there prior to moving to the United States in 1967. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a stitcher for New England Sportswear in Peabody. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, where she loved attending mass every Sunday, she was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society in Peabody where she served on the committee for many years, and she also helped organize the committee for Our Lady of Light group. Many of her interests included gardening, helping others, but most importantly she enjoyed being surrounded by the people she loved. She is survived by her children, Manuel Silva of Peabody Lisa Silva Almeida of Windham, NH, her grandchildren; Lucas and Lourdes Silva Almeida of Windham, NH, her two dogs Roxie and Whitey, and many nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her siblings Jose Clement, Manuel Clement, Joao Nunes, Roque Nunes, Edwin Nunes, Francisco Nunes, Eva Silva, Maria Batista, and Anna Mendonca. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St.(downtown location) Peabody. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 9:00 AM from the funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
