Obituary of John R. Quinn

John R. Quinn, 66, of Lynnfield, loving husband of Linda (Houle) Quinn, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. John was born in New York, NY, on December 17, 1949 son of the late Paul and Jean (Cameron) Quinn. He was raised in the Bronx and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1967. In 1969, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served as an AT2 with the Fighter Squadron Thirty-Three and was honorably discharged in 1973. He then pursued his education at Montclair State University in NJ and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance. John and Linda resided in Bergenfield, NJ for 35 years before moving to Masachusetts in 2009. John began his working career as a repairman with the New Jersey Bell Company and retired from AT&T in New York in 2003 as a communications technician, a position he held there and previously in New Jersey for 30 years. He was a loving father who supported his 2 daughters in their activities and enjoyed coaching, umpiring and refereeing for town youth sports. For the past 6 years he’s cherished his 4 grandchildren and enjoyed spending countless hours with them. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. John’s Council # 1345 and enjoyed golfing. John is survived by his loving wife Linda, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, his 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jason Kilmer of Boxford, and Kathleen and Jerome Murphy of Topsfield; his grandchildren, Kieran and Emerson Kilmer, and Alannah and Logan Murphy; his siblings and their spouses, Catherine Quinn of Ft. Lee, NJ, Stephen and Victoria Quinn and their children Paul, Stephen, and Madeline of Las Vegas, NV, and Eleanor and Jack Dunn of Hackensack, NJ; his mother-in-law, Lillian (Provencher) Houle of Danvers; and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Stern of West Chester, PA. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 758 Salem St., Lynnfield. Burial of John’s ashes will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
