Obituary of Stephen J. Kowalski Jr.

Stephen J. Kowalski Jr., 78, of Peabody, devoted husband of Sandra L. (Stanley) Kowalski, died on Friday, February 12, 2016 with his family at his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. Stephen was born in Peabody, on June 14, 1937, son of the late Stephen J. Kowalski and the late Rose (Nowak) Kowalski. He was raised in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he served for 4 years prior to receiving his honorable discharge. Stephen was employed for 35 years as a construction worker at the James Flatt Company in Burlington, retiring in 2003. As a parent, he was involved with his children in their many recreational, athletic and educational endeavors, and later, so enjoyed being a grandfather and great grandfather following and supporting them in their curricular activities. He was an avid golfer and sports fan and was a member of St. Michael’s Society Club in Peabody. In addition to his wife Sandra with who he shared 56 years of marriage, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael and Patty Kowalski of NH, Cheryl Giles and Donald Giles Jr. of Amesbury, and Edward and Carrie Kowalski of VT; his 7 cherished grandchildren, Tanya, Shawn, Benjamin, Hannah, Tasha, Ashley and Michelle, and his 4 loving great grandchildren, Aiden, Madison, Aubrey and Gavin; 3 sisters and their spouses, Joanne Slavkin, and Carol Hillard both of FL, and Patsy and David Edgerly of OR; 2 aunts, Barbara Nowak and Bella Nowak both of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. As per his request there will be no visiting hours. A family committal of his ashes will be held in the spring. Arrangements are by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
