Obituary of Theodore A. Couris

Theodore A. Couris, 84, of South Peabody died unexpectedly Monday evening at his residence. He was the husband of the late Helen (Leakeas) Couris. He was born in Peabody on May 18, 1919, the son of the late Apostolos and Garifalia (Drombares) Couris, he was a graduate of Peabody High School and lifelong Peabody resident. He was first employed at the former Boston Naval Shipyard at the Quincy facility. Later he became a barber working with his brother in Peabody for many years. He then worked for the Mass Port Authority at Logan Airport for 15 years prior to his retirement 14 years ago. He loved working with his hands and built and landscaped his own house. He also enjoyed fishing and was a member of St. Vasilios Church and St. Val’ s Mens Club. He is survived by a daughter, R. Rebecca Couris, associate professor of Nutritional science & pharmacy at Mass College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Boston, of Peabody; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George A. Couris of Peabody and Theodore E. and Stella Couris of Lowell and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility Followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11:30 A.M. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
