Obituary of Agnes A. (Balba) McLaughlin

Agnes A. (Balba) McLaughlin, 87, wife of the late Richard M. McLaughlin Jr., passed away at her home on Thursday, February 18, 2016 with her loving family and friends at her side. Mrs. McLaughlin was born in Medford, on January 12, 1929, daughter of Andrew and Philomena (Correale) Balba. She was raised in Medford, graduating from Medford High School. In 1962, she and her husband moved to Peabody. Agnes working career spanned over 35 years as a bookkeeper and accountant at the Beverly Vocational School, Filene’s Basement Store and other North Shore Companies. She was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family and so loved to spend endless hours with her granddaughter Shawna. Agnes and her late husband enjoyed square dancing, traveling and as hobbies, she enjoyed cooking, was an avid book reader and took pleasure in listening to music, and going to the theater, She also enjoyed gardening with her son Andrew, and spending her Sunday nights with the girls dancing at Captain Carlos. Agnes was an advocate for the mentally ill. Agnes is survived by her children, Andrew M. McLaughlin, Brian R. and his wife Michele McLaughlin, and Lisa A. McLaughlin all of Peabody; her cherished granddaughter, Shawna Duffy of Salem; a brother, Saverino “Sam” Balba of Tewksbury; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Balba of Burlington; 2 godsons, Stephen Balba of Tewksbury and Michael Balba of Billerica, many nieces, nephews and 3 lifelong friends, Toni Perry of New Bedford, Lisa Nadeau of Peabody and Sandra Cloutman of Essex. She was predeceased by her brother Santo Balba. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held. from the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, February 22nd followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Adult Foster Care, 65 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Her burial will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
