Obituary of Leo T Fallon

Leo T. Fallon, 80, of Peabody and formerly of South Boston, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning at his home. He was the beloved husband of Maureen M. (Corcoran) Fallon with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Cummings) Fallon. He was raised and educated in Boston and later graduated from Boston State College in 1958. Leo was employed for over 45 years as teacher in the Medford School system who taught history and woodworking to sophomores and juniors. Leo enjoyed a long distinguished racing sailing career and was the skipper of the yacht Claddagh. He was a national champion of the 110 at age 17, and continued his racing throughout the years among numerous sailing victories were; two Key West, Block island Race Week, Marblehead to Halifax, he won the five PHRF Championship, and 6 Mass Bay Championships. He was a member of the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead and the South Boston Yacht Club, and was one of the founding members of the Marion to Bermuda Race. He will be sorely missed in the sailing community and as he often said when a competitor would come by and ask how he was doing before the start of a race, his response was "beats cutting the grass." Besides his loving wife of 60 years, he is survived by his two sons, Michael and his wife Trisha Fallon of Hamilton and Leo T. Fallon, Jr and his girlfriend Wendy Champagny of Georgetown, his two sisters, Greda Meagher of Peabody and Mary Fallon of South Boston, and is also survived by his three grandchildren, Christina, Caroline, and Nicholas Fallon.
