Obituary of George W. "Fly Boy" Ewing

George W. Ewing, 68 PEABODY – George W. Ewing, 68, beloved husband of Roberta “Bobbie” Ewing, died peacefully on Monday morning February 22, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers, following an extended illness, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Wachter) Ewing. He was a lifelong resident of the city of Peabody, except for his military service stationed overseas. He graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1966, then earned a Commercial Artist Degree from Butera School of Art in Boston. Mr. Ewing served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV area. He was assigned to Tokyo, Japan during the Vietnam War. A gifted artist, he was a photographer with Gainesboro Studios of Salem and later with Boucas Studios of Lynn. He worked at Charette in Woburn as a Graphic Artist, and then as a Sales Clerk with Consumer Auto Parts of Gloucester until his recent health issues. George, affectionately known as “Fly Boy”, enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model planes. He was a member of the Association of Model Aeronautics (AMA), enjoyed vintage cars, and being a Boston sports fan especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed family camping trips to Calvin Coolidge Park in Vermont, also in Maine and New Hampshire. He also liked fishing. He is survived by his wife, Roberta “Bobbie” (Wagg) Ewing of Peabody, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage; a daughter and her husband Dawn Hughes & Brian of Salem; a son Bryan Ewing of Berwick, ME; four grandchildren, John Petrillo and Stephany Petrillo of Peabody, Justin Ewing of Peabody and Max Ewing-Pierce of ME; one great-grandson Noah Slier of Peabody; a sister Claire Ewing of Malden; a sister-in-law Helen Wagg & her husband William Mierse of Burlington, VT; and several nieces, nephews, and many good friends. He was preceded in death by a son Christopher Ewing. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for his Funeral Service on Saturday February 27, 2016 at 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody with Military Honors. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to either the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
