Obituary of Walter J. Samas

Walter Samas PEABODY – Walter Samas, 93, beloved husband of Caroline (Reppucci) (Scarpa) Samas of IL, died peacefully at his home in Glenview, IL on Wednesday February 24, 2016, while in the comforting presence of his family, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Isadore and Anna (Parwazas) Samas. He grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1940. He lived in Peabody and in Revere for many years, and moved to Venice, FL where he enjoyed his retirement. He recently moved to Glenview, IL during the last year. Mr. Samas enjoyed his career in the airline field as a Flight Engineer and Mechanic for Delta Airlines. He started at Boston’s Logan Airport in 1943, and transitioned through many mergers including Northeast Yellowbird Airlines, Western and Pacific Northern Airlines. A truly dedicated employee, he retired from Delta after 43 loyal and fun-filled years of service. A curious and talented hobbyist, he enjoyed tinkering with cuckoo clocks and pocket watches. He enjoyed Big Band Swing music and Ballroom Dancing, which led to a chance meeting at Wonderland Ballroom in Revere, and met his dear soul mate Caroline and enjoyed 40 happy years together. He also enjoyed keeping meticulous records of family trees, and together they enjoyed traveling the world. He is survived by his wife Caroline (Repucci) Samas of Glenview, IL; her three daughters and their spouses, Beth Ann Huber & Bill of Glenview, IL, Maria Caruso & Ric of Wakefield, and Jane Santini & Glenn of Woburn; her two sons, William Scarpa of Littleton, MA and Robert Scarpa of Lakewood, CO; 11 grandchildren, Daniel and William Huber, Krista and Caroline Caruso, Rugo Santini, Lesley Ryan, Lindsay Moran, Michael Scarpa, Jill Gray, Carlo Scarpa, and Candice Talbot; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by his brother Tony Samas. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday March 7, 2016 from 10 – 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
