Obituary of John J Marren
John J. Marren, 73, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Saturday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Janis (Kapaon) Marren with whom he shared over 41 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice (Waldron) Marren. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. After high school, John enlisted with the United States Army and served with 82nd Air Borne at Fort Bragg before he was honorably discharged in 1965.
Following his discharge from the Army, he enrolled at East Coast Aero Tech and received his associate’s degree in aeronautical engineering He was employed for many years at General Electric, the New England Telephone Company, and retired from Cressy Dockham/Super Valu in Andover, MA.
John enjoyed scuba diving, drum corps, reading, taking cruises and traveling, especially his trips to London, Hawaii, and Bonaire, which are part of the ABC islands. He also enjoyed scuba diving in Bonaire with his daughter Andrea, son John and his dive buddy, Jim Manning.
Besides his loving wife of 41 years, he is survived by his children, Andrea and John Stephen Marren, both of Peabody, his brother Kevin Marren of Salem and by his nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his siblings Mary McCarthy and William Marren.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody and his Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to the UPO Scholarship Fund, 44 Pulaski St. Peabody, MA 01960.
