Obituary of Robert Chambers Manoogian
Robert Chambers Manoogian, 98, loving husband of Phyllis R. (Hallowell) Manoogian, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, March 6, 2016. Mr. Manoogian was born in Peabody, on November 13, 1917 son of Dr. Byzant Manoogian and Margaret (McGlaughlin) Manoogian. He was raised and educated in Peabody, and played football for Peabody High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served as a Staff Sergeant with the 1339th AAF Base Unit in the Asiatic Pacific, India and Burma Theaters of Operation, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Robert was employed as a sign painter for 34 years at the Salem Sign Company until his retirement in 1982. Robert and his wife enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Riverside Squares. He enjoyed camping with his family, canoeing, art, mountain climbing, jogging, playing the spoons, woodworking and watching boxing. He also enjoyed tinkering and finding ways to make life better and easier. In addition to his wife Phyllis with whom he shared 68 years of marriage, he is survived by his 3 daughters and their spouses, Paula and Errol Cole, Roberta Beltran and her former spouse Ines Beltran all of Lynn, and Gayle and Charles Spurr of Wakefield; his grandchildren, Daniel and Joseph Spurr, Mukunda, Caitanya, Rama and Krsna Manoogian, 2 great grandchildren, Joanna and Elliette Spurr; a sister-in-law, Burnette Daniels, and his nieces and nephews, Betty Manoogian, Peter Manoogian, Bayne and George Demeritt, Debbie Wooten, John Ball and Alfred Daniels. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne Manoogian and his siblings, Olive Manoogian, Gregory Manoogian and Haig Richardson Manoogian. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 10th.
