(Gatti) Palmachuk, 89, beloved wife of the late Peter Palmachuk, died peacefully on Sunday March 13, 2016 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Ciman) Gatti. Joanne and Peter married in 1952 and had their son Mark on Nov. 7, 1963. Once Mark had married and had his family, Joanne totally embraced her grandchildren and enjoyed every moment shared with them. This was on of her greatest joys in life. Prior to their birth, Joanne enjoyed and loved her brother’s children, and also Peter’s sister’s children, as she was a very devoted aunty. Joanne took many trips to Italy where she met her father’s family—it was a great beginning with newly found relatives that continued to this day. Joanne’s work career began after her graduation from Peabody High School, Class of 1943. She worked in offices of leather shops, followed by years of employment as a Clerk in the Peabody District Court House before retiring. Getting into her senior years she attended St. Adelaide’s Church and met many wonderful women who became good friends. They attended morning Mass together followed by breakfast at a local restaurant. She treasured this daily routine. Joanne is survived by a son Mark Palmachuk of Peabody; two grandchildren, John and Jamie Palmachuk and daughter-in-law Sharlene Palmachuk all of Peabody; she also leaves a sister-in-law Emma Gatti of Peabody; her devoted niece Sandra Manning and her nephews John, Mark, and Richard Gatti. On the Palmachuk side she leaves her sister-in-law Vera Burke, brother-in-law Dick Burke and their daughter Katherine. Besides the loss of her parents, she also suffered the loss of her husband Peter, her brother Alex Gatti, A young nephew Mark Burke, and a niece Theresa Gatti.
