Obituary of William "Chappie" Tsapatsaris

William “Chappie” Tsapatsaris, died at home on March 18, 2016 after a brief illness surrounded by his family. Born in Peabody on September 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Kostas and Helen (Zaroulis) Tsapatsaris. He graduated from Peabody High School and Franklin Institute then opened a small business before joining the Peabody Police Department in 1952. He served as a patrolman then as the Department’s first Narcotics Officer. He received an Associate’s Degree from North Shore Community College. He retired in 1978 then began a second career as a part-time butcher at the New England Meat Market in Peabody. He worked for 20 years greeting the customers, many in his second language of Greek. He was a life-long member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church where he enjoyed spending time at the coffee hour every Sunday. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne “Honey” (Stathos) Tsapatsaris of Peabody; four sons, Dean Tsapatsaris and his wife Diane (Marques) of Boston, Andrew Tsapatsaris and his husband Dan Gatti of Hixson, Tennessee, Anthony Tsapatsaris and his wife Claire (Chenery) of Peabody and Bill Tsapatsaris of Midlothian, Virginia; one daughter, Ellen (Tsapatsaris) Stark and her husband Stephen of Staten Island, NY; three grandsons; six granddaughters and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Tsapatsaris, his sister Karen (Tsapatsaris) Marianos and his daughter-in-law, Barbara (Lamb) Tsapatsaris. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos Street, Peabody.
