Obituary of Gerard E. "Gerry" Boutin
Gerard E. “Gerry” Boutin, 87, loving husband of the late Irene M. (Young) Boutin, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in his home surrounded by his four children. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 31, 1928, the son of Louis and Edna (Demers) Boutin, he was raised in Cambridge, attended Rindge Technical H.S., and was the Vice President of his 1946 graduating class, and later inducted into the Rindge Hall of Fame. Gerry enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served as Staff Sergeant with the 2nd Marine Division FMF until 1951, and remained attached to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve until being honorably discharged in 1952. In 1964, the family made their home in Peabody. During his working career, Gerry was employed as the plant manager at the Liquid Carbonic Corp. in Cambridge and Tewksbury, then as manager of the Northeast Region in Burlington, MA and the West Central Region in Chicago, IL. During this period he attended Northeastern University and Lincoln Institute and in 1960 he received his BA in Engineering and Management from Northeastern University. In 1968, he was VP of Engineering & Construction at Transgas, Inc. in Lowell, VP and general manager at Lawrence Hydroelectric, and in 1993 he retired. As a parishioner of St. Adelaide Church, Gerry was a very active as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. As a member of the Marine Corps League, he served as past Commandant of MA. Chapter and Essex County Detachment, and was recognized as the Marine of the year, Department of MA., and the New England Division, Military order of the Devil Dogs. He was also actively involved at the American Legion, Navy League of the U.S., Fleet Reserve Association, 2nd Marine Division Assoc. and 1st V.P. of New England Chapter, National and MA Korean War Veteran Assoc., Past Commander of the Peabody Veterans Council, and a long-time supporter of Toys for Tots. Gerry is survived by his four children and their spouses, Paul and Peggy Boutin of Townsend, Stan and Jeanne Boutin of Nashua, NH, Bryan and Linda Boutin of Manchester, NH, and a loving and devoted daughter, Michelle Boutin of Tewksbury; 4 grandchildren, Patricia Jones and her husband Christopher, Matthew Boutin, Ashley Boutin, Sara Boutin, and 2 great grandchildren, Michael and Alexa Jones all of whom he cherished; a loving sister-in-law, Jean Hanlon, and a long-time devoted friend, Norm Dobson both of Peabody, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. His family will welcome relatives and friends on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral procession will gather at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 16th at the funeral home, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gerry’s name to St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960 or to the Marine Corps League, Essex County Detachment, 20 Stevens St., Peabody, MA 01960.
