Obituary of Eva (Venios) Tournas

Eva (Venios) Tournas, 87, of Salem and formerly of Peabody, died Tuesday afternoon at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James Tournas. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Theodora (Stevis) Venios. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School and attended classes at the local Community College. She has lived in Salem for over 50 years. She owned and operated with her husband, Jimmy’s Coffee Shop in the Blubber Hollows section of Salem for over 25 years. Eva was later employed for over 40 years as a Realtor / Broker of which she spent most with Lois Codair Realty in Peabody. Eva is survived by her daughter Tedi Tournas of Salem and her children, Jason and his wife Janelle Connors, Evan Murray and her grandchild, Mazzy Conners. Her son, George Tournas and his wife Deborah of Peabody and their children, Jimmy and Christine Tournas, her brother, John and his wife Marilyn Venios of Peabody, her sister, Mary Kaldes of Peabody and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Michael Venios, Ellen Venios, and Diane Nikola. Eva was a “philanthropist” in Greek her name meant “Good News,” and that she was to all that had less then she did! She never forgot her humble beginnings. We will miss her very, very much, with love, her family. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody and her Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Grove St,, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
