Obituary of Richard B. Carson

Richard B. Carson 57 years, husband of Nancy E. (Vasiles) Carson of Peabody, died on Thursday at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Carson was born on November 14, 1948 in Peabody son of the late Alexandra and Stacia (Standarska) Carson. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served as a SP4 in Vietnam from Sept 24, 1968 to Sept. 17, 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device and 2 Overseas Bars. Following his 2 year enlistment period, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged on March 5, 1974. Mr. Carson was employed for 20 years as a team leader of bridge inspectors for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was an associate member of the A.O.H. Division 18 in Salem and a former member of the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and was so proud of their 2004 World Series Win. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed reading and was a great cook according to his family. His entire life revolved around his family and close friends. In addition to his wife with whom he shared the last 16 years of his life, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mary and Ann Carson both of Peabody; a brother and his wife, Alex and Kim Carson of Chelmsford; his mother-in-law, Clara (D’ Amato) Vasiles LeBlanc of Peabody; 2 brothers-in-law and their wives, U.S. Coast Guard CWO Christopher Vasiles and Deanne Vasiles of NC, William and Annmarie Vasiles of Peabody, several nieces and nephews. A brother Fred Carson pre deceased him. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., location Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
