Obituary of John A. DeRosa
John A. DeRosa, 85, of Peabody, loving husband of Ruth A. (Holland) DeRosa, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 with his family at his side at the Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Danvers. Mr. DeRosa was born in Chelsea, on December 16, 1930, son of the late Albert and Bella (Silver) DeRosa. He was raised and educated in Chelsea and in 1970, he and his family moved to Peabody. John was employed for most of his working career as a truck driver at Daly’s Health in Lynnfield until his retirement, and he also owned and operated DeRosa’s Pizza and Sub Shop in Medford and DeRosa’s Restaurant in Saugus. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and as hobbies he enjoyed carpentry, gardening and hunting. In addition to his wife Ruth with whom he shared 65 years of marriage, he is survived by 3 sons, Massport Police Captain Albert DeRosa, Ret., and his wife Victoria DeRosa of Plaistow, NH, Retired Whittier Tech Superintendent William DeRosa and his partner Michael Smolak of Peabody, and Peabody Police Captain John DeRosa Jr. and his companion Kate Stephens of Peabody; his grandchildren, John and Andrea DeRosa, A.J. DeRosa and his fiancée Sabrina, and David Stankiewicz, 2 great grandchildren, Ariana DeRosa and John DeRosa; longtime friends Robert and Alanna Reynolds of Lowell; 2 nieces, Bella Targee of FL, and Carol and Don Longacre, and a cousin Sandra Tavilla. He was also predeceased by a sister Florence Alterio. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St. Peabody.
