Obituary of Gladys L. (Hazel) Broughton
Gladys L. (Hazel) Broughton SALEM – Gladys L. Broughton, age 88, of Salem, passed away peacefully at home on Monday with family present. She was the wife of the late John J. Broughton. She was an active member, Sunday school teacher, and choir member of the former First Baptist Church in Peabody. ln 1995 when the First Baptist Church disbanded she found a wonderful new church family at the South Congregational Church in Peabody. She worked each year on the reunion committee for her graduating Peabody High School, Class of 1946. She was an active cast member of the Fellowship players for 15 years performing in the Passion Play every Easter. She first studied in Boston and acquired her hairdressîng license. She started working at the United Shoe as a secretary, and then became a shoe tester for which she was later able to keep the shoes. Employed by LFE in Salem and Danvers, later she was employed for Andrews Beauty Salon and Patti's Magic Mirror in Peabody. She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved camping with her family. She was always planning someone's birthday, anniversary and or just a celebration party of her family. She is survived by three sons and many loved ones, David Broughton and his wife Betsy of Woodbridge VA, John Broughton and his wife Maryann of Seabrook, NH and Thomas Broughton of Salem; five grandchildren Kerry Broughton and Daniel Broughton of VA , Mark Dunn and his wife Renee of Fremont NH, Tara Broughton of Gonic NH, and Adele Duchesneau and her husband Mathew of Epping, NH; Four great grandchildren, Jacob Duchesneau, Chelsea Guptill, Marilyn Dunn, and Trevor Duchesneau. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends and church family. A visitation will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Sunday April 24th from 3 – 6 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 25, 2016 at 10 AM in the South Congregational Church, Prospect St., Peabody. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
