Obituary of Dorothy A Angelopoulos

Dorothy A (Mavrakos) Angelopoulos, 87, of Lynn and formerly of Salem, died Thursday afternoon at the Masconomet Health Center in Topsfield following a lengthy illness surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Soterios “Terry” Angelopoulos with whom she shared over 62 years of marriage. Born in Salem she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Panayiota (Houpis) Mavrakos. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1947. She has lived in Lynn for the past 50 years. Dorothy was first employed as switchboard operator at the Salem Gas and Electric Company, and after her children had grown, she worked as an aide in the Lynn Public Schools and finally before retiring, she was once again a receptionist and switchboard operator at Star Sportswear in Lynn. Dorothy was the life of the party who enjoyed dancing, music, but her favorite activity was spending time with family and grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors. She will be dearly missed and held a special place in many people’s heart. Besides her loving husband of 62 years, she is survived by her daughters, Gail Amico of Manchester, NH, Sharon and her husband George Anderson, Jr of Rowley, and Sheryl and her husband Richard Sholds of Peabody, her son Mark Angelopoulos and his wife Diane Anderson of Swampscott, her son-in-law, Michael Cusack of Boxford. She was predeceased by her daughter Dawn Angelopoulos. She is also survived by her God Daughter Donna Dube of Topsfield, and also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Timothy and Paul Mavrakos, Georgia Kallelis, Marky Korumpas and Betty Ordway. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the “Light of Dawn” P.O. Box 144, West Boxford, MA 01885.
