Obituary of Virginia Marie Kay

Virginia M. Kay, 74, of Washington place, died Friday evening at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late James and Cecilia (Murphy) Kay, and was a lifelong resident of the city. She attended Peabody schools, and graduated from Peabody High School. She attended Colby College in New Hampshire and Katherine Gibbs School. Miss Kay worked in Secretarial and Administrative Assistant positions for Essex County for many years, mostly with the Engineering Office before retiring 12 years ago. She enjoyed travel, gardening, and being at home. She is survived by: several cousins, including Nancy Savageau of Salem, Elizabeth Gurdon of Danvers, and James Hallinan of AZ, and a long, lifetime friend, Marie Kachinski of Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held today from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
