Obituary of Marjorie E Carey

Marjorie E (Lewis) Carey, 78, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Monday evening at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Lawrence “Gus” Carey with whom she shared over 49 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Bishop) Lewis. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1954. Marjorie was employed for years as a bookkeeper, and later attended Real Estate School and was a Real Estate Broker and Manager of the A.J. Lynch Realtor in Lynn for many years. She also worked for the city of Peabody in the community development office as well. Marjorie was also a property owner and land lord for many tenants in the Lynn, Peabody and Danvers area. Upon retiring, she enjoyed attending the Torigian Life Center and later served on the boards of both and was Vice President of the Friends of Peabody Counseling on Aging and the Torigian life center as well. Besides her loving husband of 49 years, she is survived by her son Michael Carey of Peabody and her two daughters, Barbara of Florida and Debora of Newburyport, her sister, Barbara Tadiello of Beverly and is also survived by her four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and was the former wife of William Hounshell. She was predeceased by her brother George Lewis. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 12:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Cedar Grove Ave, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either, Alzheimer Association, MA/NH Chapter at www.alz.org/manh , Friends of PCOA, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960, or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
