Obituary of Gilberta (Madore) Funchion

Mrs. Gilberta (Madore) Funchion, 88, of Peabody, died peacefully Saturday evening at the Ledgewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward N. Funchion and the devoted mother of twelve children. Born in Salem, she was one of ten children of the late Maxim and Clara (Belanger) Madore. Mrs. Funchion graduated from the elegant St. Chritienne’ s Academy in Salem in 1934. She was an enthusiastic lover of the Opera and an avid reader who read over one thousand books over a lifetime always imparting knowledge to her children and grandchildren. A devoted communicant of St. John’ s Church in Peabody, she was for years active in the Leo Guild and Ladies Sodality. Her sense of humor and love of life touched the hearts of all she met. She leaves six sons; John G and Susanne of Norfolk, CT; Richard J. and Joyce of Wenham; Brian R. and Lee of Burlington; Peter M. and Cheryl of Peabody; Michael F. and Debbie of Olympia, WA; and Matthew J. and Diana of Devon, PA; four daughters, Mary Jo and Stephen Quigley of Lynn; Susan E. and Jean-Claude Collinet of Oro Valley, AZ; Dorothy A. and Peter Aham of Newbury; Cynthia R. Beverly; 26 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Roland and John of Salem and Michael of Berwick, ME; a sister, Ann Marie Stanley of Manchester-by-the-Sea. She was the mother of the late Edward N. Funchion IV and William David Funchion. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St.,Peabody Facility, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
