Obituary of Alexander E Ferent
Alexander E Ferent, 73, of Weymouth and formerly of South Boston, died Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his family following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Sandra K (White) Ferent with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Alexander and Wilhelmina (Collins) Ferent. He was raised and educated in South Boston for over 57 years and has lived in Weymouth for the past 16 years.
Alexander was a self employed Lobsterman for over 55 years before retiring. He was very active with his civic duties and played a significant role in the planning and development of South Boston’s Cardinal Medeiros Dock. His other civic duties included being a Executive Delegate for the Lobsterman’s Association, was an Executive Committee Member, and served on the Board of Directors for the Mass. Fishermen’s Partnership; he also served as president of the Boston Harbor Lobstermen’s Co-Op for many years. He dedicated his life to the betterment of Massachusetts fisherman.
Besides his loving wife of 54 years he is survived by his children, Lynn Wholley, John and his wife Kathy Ferent, Wilhelmina Connolly, Kevin and his wife Marie Ferent, Edward and his wife Jennifer Ferent, and Robert Ferent and his partner John, his sisters, Geraldine and her husband Peter Kaslauskas, and Leona Ferent, and is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew Wholley, Jack Connolly, Krista and Kevin Ferent, Cameron, Torrance, and Caroline Ferent. He was predeceased by his sister Wilhelmina Lilley, his son Anthony Ferent and by his son-in-law, Michael Wholley.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02116 or at www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/Main.
