Obituary of Norman T. Newey

Norman T. Newey PEABODY – Norman T. Newey, 93, beloved husband of Violet (Lobao) Newey, died peacefully on Friday May 20, 2016 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord, following a brief illness. Born in Bristol, England, he was the son of the late Ernest R. and Gladys (Longstreet) Newey. He grew up there, and while working as a Seaman on the Queen Mary, he immigrated to the United States. He lived in Brooklyn, NY for a few years until moving to the North Shore, settling in Peabody for nearly 60 years. He worked as a driver in New York, and for Rooks Furriers of Lynn. Then he was employed as a Stock Clerk for Reed Brothers and Post Machinery in Beverly and in Greenland, NH before retiring in 1985. Norman enjoyed Square Dancing with the Salem Lancers for 25 years, and enjoyed keeping busy with projects around the house, as well as family gatherings. He is survived by his wife with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, Violet (Lobao) Newey of Peabody; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Anne Newey of Maynard; three grandchildren, Maura, Michael, and Kevin Newey all of Maynard; cousins Dot Zinkand of Hagerstown, MD, and Ruth and John P. Newey of Melbourne, FL; a brother-in-law & sister-in-law John & Irene Lobao of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. Following cremation, relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday May 26, 2016 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 Noon. Urn burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
